Question: In an environment where projects are stretch between six to 12 months, how can one show intermediate deliverables/results to the business uses/sponsors? Can you deliver results every three months?

Clay Rehm's Answer: Yes you can, and yes you should. There is no reason why small deliverables cannot be delivered each three months or so. This takes proper planning, but more importantly, a solid commitment from the team members to stick to the plan.

For this to work, the team members must be told what is in it for them to make this happen. Typically, the items overlooked in a project are the passion, interest and availability of the team resources. Spend one-on-one time with each team member to find out what they are looking to get out of the project, and what they will and can do to contribute to its success.
