REVIEWER: Anthony Miller software engineer network administrator for navigator business solution.

BACKGROUND: Navigator Business Solutions is one of the largest SAP partners working with the SAP Business One application. We focus on small to medium-sized businesses.

PLATFORMS: We run the xFusion Studio product on a Microsoft Windows XP professional desktop, and use it to migrate our customers’ and their data from legacy systems to Windows Server 2003-2008 running MS SQL 2005 and SAP Business One.

PROBLEM SOLVED: We help our customers migrate data from their existing platform to a new one running MS SQL and SAP Business One. As our customers are running dozens of different business solutions, we needed a software utility that could manage the movement of data in this environment and ensure an accurate and complete transfer. Migrating mission-critical customer data leaves us with no room for error in this process.

PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: xFusion Studio offers an easy-to-use interface that can move large amounts of data from Excel and other formats to the new SAP Business One system. As SAP Business One is a comprehensive and secure business management solution, it requires that data enter the system only through an application program interface (API). xFusion Studio is certified to this API and is able to migrate data into each of the SAP applications’ objects and tables with no errors. There isn’t another solution out there that I am aware of that can do this.

STRENGTHS: xFusion Studio has a template for every SAP Business One business object, which helps us get started on a new customer project. These templates are reusable and this saves us time by having a repeatable process in place for future projects. We have also been pleased with the accuracy of the xFusion Studio data processing.

WEAKNESSES: The learning curve is steep, but the manufacturer does provide training. It helps to have a good understanding of SQL, SAP Business One, and migration methodology processes.

SELECTION CRITERIA: We decided to use xFusion Studio for several reasons. It can import data into every business object in SAP Business One, and the accuracy of the data transfer after the migration is perfect. Data migrations have a tendency to produce a lot of contaminated data after everything is done. XFusion Studio provides data quality functions and post-migration quality checks to help us ensure that these corruption problems are avoided. Also, after each test migration a report is generated that shows any errors that need to be fixed prior to doing the migration on the real system.

DELIVERABLES: We were provided an account on the manufacturer’s customer portal, where we gained access to the software and templates related to our project. These needed to be customized to our specific customer project. The xFusion Studio software improved our data migration process, in two ways; the speed and reliability of processing large sets of data. The software also helped us to test the data migration prior to doing it on the production server. This process repeatability minimizes system downtime for our customers.

VENDOR SUPPORT: Vendor support is great. When we contact them for help there is never a hold time, which is unheard of. The support staff is very knowledgeable with SQL and SAP Business One. They always had helpful answers for me, with very little wait time.
