BACKGROUND: Navigant International is the second largest travel management services provider in North America with more than 13,000 corporate, government, military, leisure and meetings, and incentive clients. The company's end-to-end travel solutions include corporate travel pattern analysis and reporting tools; travel policy development; consulting on cost-saving opportunities; airline ticket, hotel and rental car reservations; meeting and convention planning; and leisure travel products.
PLATFORMS: Data resides in a DB2 Universal Database on an IBM pSeries UNIX Server. Brio is working on a combination of UNIX and Intel servers.
PROBLEM SOLVED: Prior to ReportFLYR, Navigant and the entire travel industry provided travel expense information to clients via time- consuming paper reporting processes. Reports were often out of date, containing data that was 45 to 60 days old. Navigant wanted to differentiate its reporting capabilities in order to gain competitive advantage and reinforce the progressive Navigant brand. To that end, Navigant set out to empower its 13,000 corporate clients with easy access to its data warehouse of current travel information and the analytical tools to make better decisions.
PRODUCT FUNCTIONALITY: The full range of Brio products allows Navigant to meet all our clients' reporting needs, regardless of their technical ability and willingness to install client software. ReportFLYR provides clients with secure access to their important travel data that is housed in our travel data warehouse. We have more than 100 core reports that are customized for clients by parameter selections. We have three ReportFLYR service offerings used by our 13,000 clients. One free user license of InfoFLYR is provided to every client. It's based on Freeview, allowing for standard report viewing and printing. For a nominal annual license, DataFLYR, built with Insight, allows users to access the complete report repository online and export local results into numerous formats in addition to viewing and printing. Our high-end reporting service offered at a higher annual license fee, PivotFLYR, is also built with Insight. It provides clients with the ability to produce custom reports complete with graphs and charts. With the new Brio Performance Suite 8 thin clients, we also offer a hosted service, providing clients with the PivotFLYR level of reporting via the Web, with no client plug- in software.
STRENGTHS: Brio Performance Suite's greatest strength is its ability to scale different versions of the product across 13,000 clients all with different needs and aptitudes. Reports all work identically, regardless of product version. The underlying infrastructure makes it easy to support multiple versions and thousands of users. With this functionality, Navigant can easily meet customer needs and exceed their expectations. The intuitive point-and-click interface enables users to quickly become proficient and get the information they need, making it easy for Navigant to deploy the product to thousands of users.
WEAKNESSES: Some Navigant clients are reluctant to use Brio, as it's not the market leader in business intelligence.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Brio Performance Suite was selected for three primary reasons. First, Brio is a very easy company to work with. Second, Brio's license structure supported Navigant's business model. Third, Brio Performance Suite was scalable across 13,000 clients, all with differing needs and technological aptitudes.
DELIVERABLES: Clients receive reports and the data behind the reports. Their travel data is ready to manipulate and spot trends, allowing informed decisions and action. The most commonly used reports and analyses are: Air Savings showing travelers who did not take lowest fare and why; Traveler Locator which manages traveler safety by detailing the city and hotel location of each traveler; Booking Method showing by traveler how each reservation was made; Missed Hotel Night showing air reservations made without hotel; Supplier Contract Performance which monitors performance against air and hotel contracts; and Travel Policy Compliance which identifies travel policy abusers.
VENDOR SUPPORT: The Brio team was very helpful and accessible during the implementation. Since implementation, few problems arise; but when they do, the Brio team escalates issues and gets them resolved.
DOCUMENTATION:Brio's intuitive user interface and built- in help makes it extremely easy to have 13,000 self-sufficient clients. After a brief training session, clients are able to use the solution with little ongoing help.
