A Message from the President

The first year of the new millenium was another very successful year for DAMA International and its affiliated chapters. DAMA International is rapidly becoming the professional organization of choice for data management professionals and practitioners.

The DAMA International Conference in Anaheim, co-located with the Meta Data Conference, was our largest conference to date with 1,200 people exchanging ideas, concepts, problems and successes. The DAMA International Europe Conference in London, co-located with the Meta Data Conference and Information Quality Conference, doubled in size over last year. The annual conference in Australia was billed as the DAMA International Australia Conference and joins the other two Conferences in terms of success. DAMA International was involved again in the ER Conference in Yokohama. Plans are in progress to increase the scope and size of the three DAMA International Conferences in 2002 and to be involved with the ER Conference in Finland.

Another success last year was the acquisition of a Membership Management System to provide a central location for member information. This system will be brought online and populated early this year. With this system, chapters will be able to maintain current, accurate member information; and that information will be available for providing additional services to the members.

The DAMA International Web page continues to be expanded and enhanced. With the implementation of the Membership Management System, a members-only Web page will be created containing useful information such as standards pertaining to data management, education resources and member discounts for products and services. DAMA International is forming a variety of alliances with different organizations, including ICCP, that provide benefits for its members.

The Chapter Presidents, through their Presidents Council Liaison, provide input about the direction and activities for DAMA International. The DAMA International Advisors also provide insight into the direction of the data management discipline as well as the direction and activities for DAMA International. The tremendous exchange of ideas between the Chapter Presidents, DAMA International Board Members and the Advisors at the Presidents Council meeting in Anaheim last year resulted in an extremely successful meeting.
