At DCI's Data Warehouse World in New York, DCI announced the winners of the fourth annual Excellence in Business Information Awards. These awards recognize outstanding successful implementations of data warehousing, data access and decision support technologies in today's dynamic computing environment. Each entrant was required to document an actual data warehouse implementation at a customer's location.

1998 Winners

  • Compaq Computer Corporation
for a data warehouse implementation at USAA Information Services
  • Information Advantage
for a data warehouse installed at Dayton Hudson Corporation
  • Infospace
for an implementation at Sprint PCS
  • NCR
for its implementation at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • SAS Institute Inc.
for a data warehouse built for the U.S. Army Center for Healthcare Education and Studies

The implementations were judged by an independent panel of data warehouse experts including: Aaron Zornes, executive vice president of application delivery strategies at META Group; Bill Inmon, founder of Pine Cone Systems and widely recognized as the father of the data warehouse concept; Claudia Imhoff, founder of Intelligent Solutions, Inc.; and Ron Powell, publisher and editorial director of DM Review. Criteria considered by the judges were technical innovation, demonstrated improvement in the customer's overall business operations and the impact of the data warehouse solution on the customer's return on investment.

The awards are sponsored by DCI in conjunction with DM Review and co-sponsored by META Group and the International Data Warehousing Association.
