This study investigates the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) market in the European financial sector. IDC defines data warehousing as a process that organizes time-based data coming from multiple applications according to subjects meaningful to the business and driven by the need to inform decision makers. The implementation of a unique data warehouse able to support all the new requirements for data analysis is becoming increasingly critical for highly complex organizations such as banks. The analysis focuses on the adoption of EDW at banking/financial institutions in Europe, analyzing the key factors driving demand for EDW solutions and the main requirements that are at the basis of successful implementation of EDW solutions in banking. IT spending forecasts for data warehouse solutions based on IDC primary research are provided.
