I am not hopeful that just slapping a new name on it, calling 'it' Agile BI, will solve the problem of connecting business questions to the right information.

Fundamentally, creating an effective BI solution is a corporate culture problem. Effective business intelligence requires line of business resources to collaborate with information technology resources. These people need to trust each other, like each other, and above all, feel that they are working for the same team.

To apply an agile methodology may 'feel' it is making the problem more manageable, but to shorten the distance between business and IT will require that you bring together their cultures and language and compensation incentives and ranking and rating. In short: it is a corporate culture problem.

BI means different things to different users. Production people need access to different information than management people most of the time and management people use the production information differently then production people so there is frequently a loss in translation. Production people should have limited access to customer feedback that management gets so all parties are on the same page when discussing problems or the next iteration or generation of a product.

Calling it agile may not solve the above stated problems. I have seen no evidence that there is a good way to share information when individuals cannot document what they are doing and find the information a week later.
