Its a very clever and useful device that conveys a lot of information at a glance. It looks just like a large urban destination map (Chicago comes to mind), where the large vendors (Oracle, IBM, Microsoft) serving many content categories make up the transfer stations and other vendors intersect at two or three content types. There are eight categories of vendors in all, and its interesting to see unexpected narrowness in some vendor areas of coverage.
The map is hanging on my whiteboard now and I cant stop looking at the darned thing.
Anyway, enough talking, you can get to the JPEG here but Id recommend downloading and printing the PDF version after youve forwarded it to your CTO.
There is another interesting post at CMSWatch today about how the candy company Skittles and its parent Mars have basically let twitter, facebook et al take over their Web site. Its a social experiment run amok, and some of the content probably isnt suitable for office viewing. Its probably more for the skateboard set and is more stunt than strategy, says our friend Tony Byrne, who also says parts of the idea are promising. Check out Tonys post, which also takes you to the Skittles site.
